Navigating bing images

Bing images are made available through the navigation pane to the left of the bing search box on the bing interface. The importance of images to bing is indicated by Images being the first link on the bing.com homepage.

On mouse-over the menu options 'Find computer wallpaper' and 'Find black & white pictures' appear beside the Images link. These seem rather specialised options to be made available at the top level. Perhaps they are there because Google does not offer these options in their Advanced Image Search.

If you scan down the Bing images options shown in the left margin, and compare them to what Google offers, then only wallpaper and black & white pictures have no equivalent in Google. This indicates a useful search tactic -  if you are searching for specific categories of images, see if any particular search engine hand-holds you through accessing that category.

Scrolling bing images

Try this by clicking on an any image category and an awful lot of pictures will appear on the one page. There aren't, actually, an infinite number of pictures available, but there may be so many that you cannot scroll to the bottom of them without waiting an awful long time for them all to download.

To avoid a nearly infinite download, bing images might start you off with an example search. At the time of writing, if you click on the top-level Images link on bing UK, the example search is "Beautiful Britain". Slightly ironic when the worst arctic storm for several decades is heading our way. Then again, snow is beautiful, I guess!
