6 Nov 2010 ... Marks and Spencer jobs are likely to increase in their clothing department in the near future. Shareholders and analysts are suggesting that Marks & Spencer Group Plc needs to improve the retailer’s clothing brands and not pursue overseas expansion.Marks & Spencer Group Plc Chief Executive Officer Marc Bolland will publish his strategy on Nov. 9 after a six-month review. Sales growth at Marks & Spencer has been trailing Tesco over the past five years as Tesco has expanded its selection of clothing.
Bolland has a reputation for reviving businesses. As CEO of Morrisons, he turned a large loss into a record profit, scrapping the company’s logo and introducing new store formats.
Marks & Spencer’s clothing sales rose in the second quarter, a sixth straight quarterly increase, with suits, footware, and cashmere knitwear doing well. Analysts suggest Marks & Spencer needs to do better at distinguishing between its main brands, and improve online clothing offerings
