Next Sales Consultant?
If you pop into Next to buy a dress then the member of staff who asks you which style you prefer, or who actually sells you a dress, goes under the grand title of Sales Consultant. A more accurate & informative job title might be Entry Level Customer Facing Store Worker, but the company double-speak experts will not allow such bog-standard terminology, even at the expense of clarity. Other stores, to confuse matters further, use different high-faluting terminology. For instance, Debenhams talks about Sales Associates. Associates? Consultants? It all sounds very grand, but it's all just 'working in a store'. By producing a terminological confusion that would make Orwell spin in his grave, stores make it much harder for job seekers, and lead to the necessity of producing bespoke search facilities for each store, and hence the necessity of a site like this one.
