Sainsburys Direct is a misnomer for Sainsburys Online, but Sainsburys online certainly provides a great direct shopping experience!

Sainsburys Direct

The Sainsburys online shopping website isn't called  Sainsburys Direct. But people often search for Sainsburys Direct because other supermarkets use the Direct name, for example, Tesco Direct and ASDA Direct. So when looking for Sainsburys online, don't look for the  Sainsburys Direct brand - there isn't one!

The Sainsburys home page is fairly easy to use, once you get past the messy advertising. The bright orange looks a bit garish, but it's probably too late to change that - it's "Sainsburys colour". 

The advantages of not having a Sainsburys Direct brand name is that you don't finding yourself asking: "What's the difference between Sainsburys Direct and  Sainbury's?". The Tesco website is quite confusing because of the different brand names it uses on several websites - Tesco Direct, Tesco Extra, and so on.

Using Sainsburys Online

It's worthwhile bookmarking the Sainsburys home page as they frequently update it with special offers. They have quite a neat slideshow of their current offers on the home page, so if you are looking for general bargains it's worth just sitting and watching the slideshow for a while.

Sainsburys Online v Tesco Direct

Sainsburys Online and Tesco Direct offer most categories of grocery and non-grocery products. Offerings at both include Food & drink, home & garden,  appliances, toys, entertainment, finance, and sports. Sainsburys hides categories in which they are comparatively weak, like clothing, behind a More menu. 

Browsing through the Sainsburys online and Tesco direct websites is similar. Both stores are very good at selling groceries, and both have great non-grocery offerings, especially at the bargain end of the market.

The Sainsburys home page is well designed. The menu bar is useful, is not as cluttered as some, and is mor e integrated than the Tesco offerings. The Sainbury's search box is prominent and does its job efficiently across the whole range of Sainsburys products. Search for "grapes" or "jeans" and you get a useful response, which is not true of the Tesco Direct site - it doesn't know about groceries, even though (surely) its customers might think they could buy grapes directly form Tesco?

Sainsburys Online - alternatives

To find the most obvious alternatives to the online offerings at Sainsburys, try Tesco Direct and ASDA Direct. But there are many other options, especially note should be taken of price comparison sites. Also try the Shopping option in Google for well defined products (it's no use just searching for "grapes" in Google Shopping as you'll just end up with multiple listings for Steinbeck's famous novel!)
