Tesco Direct gives you online access to Tesco's non-grocery products.
Tesco Direct
Tesco Direct is available online or as a printed catalogue. Tesco direct is the UK's most popular internet store, used by tens of thousands of shoppers every day.
- Tesco direct allows you to buy non-grocery products for direct delivery to your door.
Offerings includes PCs, cameras, phones, home electricals, TVs, furniture, kitchen products, bathroom equipment, DIY, car accessories, jewellery, watches clothing, furniture, homeware, and sports equipment.
The Tesco Direct online catalogue doesn't offer groceries or books--you need to navigate to other web sites to find information on these products. Tesco are missing a trick by not integrating search & purchasing of all products across all their sites. Search for "chips" or "beans" on the Tesco Direct site and nothing is returned.
Tesco Direct catalogue in print
The Tesco Direct website gives you a free online catalogue, but a print version is also available for free. You can get the print version in any store with a Tesco Direct desk. This includes most Tesco superstores and Tesco Extras. Call the store first and ask them if they have any catalogues. You can find stores using the Tesco store locator.
Tesco do not post Tesco Direct catalogues on request. If you want a catalogue, phone a Tesco store to check for availability. Then, if there are any available, visit the store to pick one up. If this is not convenient, remember that all the details are available online. New paper catalogues appear in the Spring and in the Autumn.
The online version of the catalogue has several advantages over the print version.
- The print version of the Tesco Direct catalogue will be out of date quite quickly, while the online version always has bang-up-to-date price and product information.
- There are more products on the website
- All products are on the website, except for those that are discontinued.
If you know what you want, the online version is probably all you need. If you like to window shop, and to browse through large selections of products, then it's worth getting the printed version. Browsing through a catalogue off line is more fun than browsing online. But once you find a product you want to buy always check the details online for up-to-date prices and information, special offers and alternatives.
Tesco direct's online search facilities are more powerful than those in the paper catalogue. But the paper catalogue's contents and index pages provide useful supplements to the online techniques, as does the ability to just flick through the pages until you see something that takes your fancy!

Tesco Direct news
November 26, 2009 - Tesco Direct will begin selling the Apple iPhone 3G and 3GS before Christmas. This surprise move may spark a price war.
September 2007 - Tesco Direct was infiltrated by an insider card fraudster. A customer's card details were recorded at Tesco's Cardiff call centre and fraudulent spending of £680 occurred in London hours later. Criminal gangs target poorly-paid workers in call centres, and there is no legal requirement to conduct criminal records checks. The call centre worker involved was a man from Ghana on a temporary working visa who was allowed access to credit card details. The victim had tried to place a phone order, requiring her to give her full credit card number and three digit security code--all a criminal needs to make many purchases over the Internet or by phone.
September 2006 - the £35m launch of Tesco Direct backfired due to an IT hitch. But it soon recovered from this to become a major player in the UK internet marketplace.
