Napoleon Dynamite Quotes from critics

"Napoleon Dynamite is a sleeper hit, a cult classic among teens. One of the most memorable images in the film is the shot of the vote for pedro t-shirt." - Seth Godin.

"Napoleon Dynamite should be required therapy for anyone with a self-image problem. No matter how much of a loser a person believes himself to be, he couldn't possibly be in worse shape than the protagonist of Jared Hess' wickedly funny high school comedy... the main character is morose, antisocial, and has a working understanding of what happened in Columbine... Napoleon is not an easy guy to like. Rooting for him takes effort." - James Berardinelli

"It's gonna be a dynamite summer."  - film tagline.

"He's out to prove he's got nothing to prove." - film tagline.

"His best skill is simple survival of will and pride in the brutal world of numbskull bullies and untouchable jocks and cheerleaders." - Ross Anthony

"Imagine a John Hughes teen comedy remade by Jim Jarmusch and dropped into the town that time forgot." - Sean Axmaker.

"Napoleon is that really weird kid at school perfectly oblivious to the fact he is weird; the idiot that thinks everybody else is an idiot and by and large he's right." - M. Chad Durham

"...take an oddball outsider with lots of energy and bizarre ideas, give him a funny sidekick, a peculiar family, a geeky love interest, an immature adult antagonist, and plop him into a high school crawling with bullies, jocks, bad fashion, bad food, and all the other nostalgic detritus of American adolescence. Steep in deadpan humor and wry jokes, add just a pinch of truth, and you've got yourself a high school hit." - Jurgen Fauth

"The humour ... doesn’t come from characters being witty or knowing – we’re mostly laughing at them rather than with them. Napoleon ...[is] a long way from the cliché of the lonely nerd who just wants to be loved." - Matthew Turner

"There’s a lot to enjoy here, particularly in the wealth of little details (the inventive credit sequence; the bizarre costumes and hair-dos) and off-the-wall moments." - Matthew Turner

"... never compelling, its diffident, heavy-lidded hero deserves to be as iconic for a new generation of ne'er do wells as Gummo and Slackers were to the last generation of losers." - Matthew De Abaitua

Napoleon Dynamite Quotes from the film

"What are you going to do today, Napoleon? Whatever i feel like, gosh!"

Uncle Rico: "What about your girlfriend?" Kip: "Well, things are getting pretty serious right now. I mean, we chat online for, like, two hours every day so I guess you could say things are gettin' pretty serious."

"What are you drawing? A liger. What's a liger?
It's pretty much my favorite animal. It's like a lion and a tiger mixed... bred for its skills in magic."

"Skills? You know, like nunchuck skills, bowhunting skills, computer hacking skills... Girls only want boyfriends who have great skills."

Pedro: "I like her bangs." Napoleon: "Yeah, I took her to the mall to get some glamor shots for her birthday one year."

"  spent like three hours doing shading the upper lip. It's probably the best drawing I've ever done." Trisha: "Yeah... it's really... neat."

Napoleon: "Do the chickens have large talons?" Farmer: "Do they have what?" N: "Large talons." F: "I don't understand a word you just said." p>Kip to our hero after a chat room session: "Don’t be jealous just because I’ve been talking to hot babes all day.”

Napoleon Dynamite - background

Napoleon Dynamite is a movie directed by Jared Hess, and co-written by him and his wife Jerusha. Their unusual first names reflect their Mormon background. The file is based on Jared's short student film, Peluca. Hess filmed Napoleon Dynamite in the summer of 2003 in his childhood hometown of Preston, Idaho. It debued at Sundance in January 2004. It had made over $44. million by January 1, 2006, but cost only $400,000 to make. It won MTV Movie Awards for Breakthrough Male Performance, Best Musical Performance, and Best Movie in 2005.

The title character (played by Jon Heder) is a stereotypical geek. An introverted high school student, he is into drawing, fishing, and telling tall tales. The film revolves him and his interactions with equally eccentric friends, family, and associates in Preston, Idaho. The main plot involves helping his friend, Pedro Sanchez (Efren Ramirez), win the school presidency. The movie reflects the director's own feeling of social awkwardness growing up in Utah.

The love interest is provided by Deb (Tina Majorino), who is pursued by our hero and Pedro throughout the film. But this love triangle is a nerdy affair and has no resolution. Napoleon lives with his grandmother and even geekier 32-year-old brother Kip. Uncle Rico, an ex-high school quarterback with shattered dreams of stardom, looks after them after grandmother is hospitalized. Kip spends most of his day "chattin' with babes" in Internet chat rooms, and his unlikely romantic hookup is one of several hilarious plot-lines.
