Google Maps Satellite View
The Google Maps Satellite View provides satellite images for many countries.
The term Google Maps Satellite View refers to the view obtained by pressing the Satellite button on a Google Map. The term Google Maps Satellite Views refers to the actual satellite images that appear in the Google Maps Satellite View.
Google Maps Satellite Views are available for many areas of the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Australia, and many other countries.
Google Maps Satellite Views - Areas of Focus
Google satellite maps' high-resolution imagery tends to be kept for urban and highly industrialised areas, from America's major cities to Egypt's Nile Valley.
Security issues and Google Satellite Maps
Google has blurred some areas for security, including the area of the U.S. Naval Observatory area (where the official residence of the Vice President is located.) The United States Capitol, and the White House used to be hidden, but (last time I looked) are now visible. For long standing structures, which have no recent additions that might cause security issues, there is little problem with Google showing them. After all, there are already many maps showing people where the White House is!
Resolution of Google Maps Satellite Views
Less populated areas are usually shown in lower resolution. Some areas are obscured by patches of cloud.
Applications of the Google Maps Satellite View
Sites have been established featuring Google satellite maps of natural and man-made landmarks. The U.S. National Weather Service uses Google Maps satellite views within local weather forecasts.
Producing Google Maps Satellite Views
Many Google maps satellite views are not satellite views! Most of the high-resolution imagery is aerial photography taken by aircraft from around 1000 feet.
