You can list your pages for free, but control your position by the amount you bid for keywords. You pay when a customer clicks through to your site.

Overture purchased AltaVista and FAST in 2003, then Yahoo swallowed Overture and Inktomi.

The Overture search terms suggestion tool is a handy keyword search tool. But Wordtracker is   better as it is not susceptible to automatic search distortion.

One of the best Overture secrets is revealed by an urban myth circulating round every Overture message board. This concerns Google's Overture removal. 

Certainly, Overture cannot be found by a Google search. But would Google be so petty as to remove a competitor from its search engine? No, what has really happened is that Overture has disallowed spider's from slurping the site (check their robots.txt file). Guess they think they are too exclusive to entertain spiders.
