Multimap Europe provides detailed maps of Western Europe and most of Eastern Europe.
The zoom in and out features are especially good for getting an overview of an area.
Other useful sites are www.mapquest.com and maps.yahoo.com. Google maps is
excellent on the UK, and getting better all the time for most other European
countries.
Via Michelin is a great resource for most of Europe. Other companies provide speacialist features. For instance, www.mappy.com are very good at highlighting parking spots.
Multimap Europe - PSINet Europe
PSINet Europe is a leading provider of internet communication services to large European corporations. PSINet Europe has been providing internet services to Multimap.com since 1998. From 1998 to 2002 Multimap.com's traffic grew from less than a million pages a month to over 65 million, and continues to grow. PSINet Europe provides Multimap.com with high-speed connectivity through a network of 60 machines in a secure data centre. This network has direct fibre-optic connection to the PSINet Europe backbone, which connects across the UK, to continental Europe and the US at 622Mbps. PSINet Europe manages the network while Multimap.com manages its applications and servers.
Multimap Europe and further abroad
Being a UK based company, Multimap tends to roll out features initially in Western Europe. For instance, they began by combining street level maps in Europe with maps from Microsoft Virtual Earth to provide improved country and region level maps. But in 2008 they extended this fusion to:

- Africa - Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Libya, Egypt, South Africa
- Eastern Europe -Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia
- Central and South America - Mexico, Argentina, Brazil, Chile
Microsoft Virtual Earth, of course, are US based. But Multimap make sure to integrate European Aerial and Bird’s Eye images from them as soon as they can.
Multimap Europe partners
Multimap Europe partners the University of Sheffield to help people find their way to and around campus. Multimap's Travel Directions service delivers directions from anywhere in the country to the various departments, plotting the route on a map.
