Halfords Online Shopping with Multimap Integration

8 Dec 2010 – Salmon, the Watford based eCommerce solutions provider, announces that car accessories and cycling retailer Halfords has launched its first online shopping website. This follows Halfords’ dotmobile site, which went live in August. Now customers can pay for orders via mobile phone.

Almost half of young adults have an internet connected mobile phone, and the number of internet connected phones has now surpassed the number of internet connected computers. Halfords has seen mobile visitor numbers increase to 8% of internet visitors.

Halfords dotmobile provides options for home delivery, Work Delivery, and 'collect free from store'. As well as searching for products, you can read customer reviews, compare products, and find thee nearest store with stock. Customers can pay by credit/debit card or, unusually for a UK retailer, PayPal.

The mobile application is based in the same eCommerce platform as Halfords.com (IBM WebSphere Commerce). The mobile site has been integrated with Multimap to offer store locator facilities. Multimap is an industry leader in providing store locator facilities, and provides maps for many other leading companies leading companies, including Waitrose, Yell and the RAC.

Halfords is the UK’s leading retailer for car and cycling accessories with 10,000 staff and 469 UK stores. They also have stores in Ireland and the Czech Republic.

Salmon customers include Argos, Ann Summers, Boots, Bristol & West, Halfords, ICI Paints, Selfridges and Swiss Re. Their Argos site provides a shopping experience second to none in the industry. Their integration of shopping, informative listings, and customer reviews provides an enjoyable and informative experience comparable to that of old hands like Amazon and eBay. We hope and expect that their Halfords offering will be as good.
