'David Mitchell entices his readers onto a rollercoaster, and...they can't bear the journey to end ... There won’t be a bigger, bolder novel this year’' - The Guardian
In Cloud Atlas, David Mitchell introduces us to six interlocking lives, and one amazing adventure. In a story that circles the globe and reaches from the 19th century to a post-apocalyptic future, David Mitchell erases the boundaries of time, genre and language to offer an enthralling vision. The six stories include:
- An unhappy voyager crossing the Pacific in 1850;
- A disinherited composer barely surviving in war torn Belgium;
- A caring journalist in Ronald Reagan's California;
- A publisher fleeing gangland debts;
- A genetically modified junk-food waitress on death-row;
- A young Pacific Islander witnessing the death of civilisation.
The characters in Cloud Atlas hear each other's echoes down the corridors of history, and change each others destinies are changed in many different ways.
