There is too much garbage written about nutrition. If you are sensible, you will try and find the best scientific advice, in a form that's easy to digest. "Eat Drink and Be Healthy" provides this advice in a book that is a joy to read.

Walter C. Willett, M.D., is chairman of the Department of Nutrition at the Harvard School of Public Health and a professor of medicine at the Harvard Medical School.

The author suggests why much recent US Department of Agriculture suggestions, and UK government proclamations, are wrong. Willett encourages the reader to adopt a new food pyramid. Amongst many things, he tells you how and why:

Dr. Willett builds a general set of dietary guidelines that makes sense out of the welter of conflicting nutritional advice bombarding us daily--not merely from the USDA, but from books and hack writers preaching everything from banishing carbohydrates to ultra-low fat diets. He shows how none of this nutritional advice has prevented an epidemic of obesity.
